Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) has garnered international recognition for its environmental achievements and sustainable practices across its operations, receiving ‘The 2015 Green Era Award’ from ‘Otherways Management Association Club-Paris’. omanoil was praised for adopting and updating best environmental practices, from implementing leak prevention systems to pioneering the green transport of fuels.
Engr. Omar Ahmed Salim Qatan, omanoil’s Chief Executive Officer, commented on the recognition saying, “Sustainability has been a key driver in our business strategy since our establishment over a decade ago, and we aim to care beyond fueling to lead by example and raise industry benchmarks. We institutionalize a number of measures to control our carbon footprint and conserve energy at every stage of our supply chain, and believe that environmentally-friendly operations as well as quality and efficiency is the way to best serve this nation.”
Going beyond simply complying with laws and regulations, omanoil embraces new technology to reinvent its procedures for greater results. Its fleet of fifteen tankers is aluminum which is corrosion resistant, eliminating the risk of a leak, and light, therefore consuming less fuel for greener transportation. In addition, omanoil’s 166 filling stations feature double-wall storage tanks that are reinforced with fiberglass, leak detection systems to ensure an effective and timely response to problems, and LED lights that cut power consumption by over 40%. Furthermore, an ambient air monitoring system at omanoil’s Mina Al Fahal Distribution Terminal measures emission levels to meet air quality standards.
