Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) and The Youth Center recently signed a cooperation agreement to support self-employed Omani youth. By investing in a training programme that will support young freelancers in creating their own start-ups, OOMCO is committed to contributing to the main objective of the Youth Center to have this young talent generate more income and contribute to the national economy.
The agreement was signed by Tariq bin Mohammed Al Junaidi, Chief Executive Officer of OOMCO and Eng. Zaid bin Abdullah Al Salmani, Managing Director of the Youth Center. The Youth Center aims to support and hone the skillsets of young people in Oman through a variety of programmes and in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Tariq bin Mohammed Al Junaidi, Chief Executive Officer of OOMCO said, “Our young entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses and start-ups are crucial to propelling, growing, and diversifying Oman’s economy. We aim to support our youth in turning their interests into real and sustainable jobs that will provide them with a stable income and opportunities to scale-up their ideas.” He added, “Through this cooperation with the Youth Center, the training programme will focus on empowering aspiring Omani talent by equipping them with innovative thinking and other essential skills. They will be able to face and overcome challenges and develop skills in marketing, selling, and financial management that will transform their ideas into sustainable businesses.”
Eng. Zaid bin Abdullah Al Salmani, Managing Director of the Youth Center said, “This agreement is a continuation of the approach undertaken by the Youth Center in partnership with various institutions in the government and private sectors, to empower the youth and support multiple programmes that develop their talents and skillsets. The goal is to help them be independent freelancers and to have them contribute onto the economy as small and medium enterprises.”
OOMCO aims to add value to local communities. The company supports many charitable, educational, environmental, and youth events and initiatives, to name a few. The development of SMEs is an essential part of OOMCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. As part of its commitment to support SMEs, OOMCO operates the Tasweik programme, in cooperation with the Al Raffd Fund, to financially support business ideas through a competition.
