Reinforcing its support for events that fuel community development, Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) recently sponsored a team of athletes who undertook the intense Oman by UTMB race. Racing on behalf of the Environment Society Oman (ESO) and Emily’s Garden, the team was able to raise funds for ESO’s Green Schools Initiative. This sponsorship is the latest of the fuel marketing company’s CSR programme, which champions tourism and charitable, educational, and environmental causes that add value to the community.
Khamis Nasir Khamis Al Shuaibi, General Manager of Shared Services at Oman Oil Marketing Company, said, “As the Sultanate’s largest fuel marketing company, we support the creation of In-Country Value and social sustainability. We are delighted to contribute to the athletes’ remarkable journey as they took on the 50 km course, tackling some of Oman’s toughest and most beautiful terrains. The race not only promotes of Oman as a tourist destination, but help the Environment Society of Oman’s Green Schools Initiative, which fosters sustainable behavior and environmental awareness in the younger generations.”
It is the second time the UTMB race has been held in Oman, and almost 2,000 people from 69 countries took part, with ages ranging from just 6 to 87 years. Over three days, runners traversed the challenging course, seeing a part of Oman that few get to see as they summited exposed ridges, navigated date palm filled wadis and abandoned ancient villages, and climbed thousands of meters above sea level.
