In line with its commitment to lead the industry on standards of safety in the workplace, Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) recently participated in the Oman Workplace Safety and Loss Prevention Conference 2019. Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Omar bin Said Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, the conference brought together regulators and companies across various industries to discuss the enhancement of operating safety standards in Oman.
OOMCO’s Senior Manager Health, Safety, Environment, Quality, Technical and Sustainable Development, Mohamed Al Mujaini, spoke at the event and introduced the concept of the STOP card, which encourages every employee to stop unsafe actions or conditions that they may observe in daily work life. He also presented the company’s experience in using the STOP card and Safety Observation Conversation (SOC) as well as additional measures OOMCO has put in place towards instilling a positive safety culture.
“Safety has always been an unyielding element of all of our operations and an integral part of our company culture. Much more than merely a set of rules that we must comply with, it is an obligation to safeguard our employees, customers, contractors and the public,” said Al Mujaini. “The conference has proved to be a valuable platform for various industries to share knowledge, experiences, and solutions that can be practically applied. Leading by example, we are able to safeguard our stakeholders and sustain our businesses to create a truly holistic safety culture in the industry.”
