This year, Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) celebrates a historic milestone of 20 years without Lost Time Injury (LTI) at the Mina Al Fahal Distribution Terminal that is operated by the company in a joint venture with Al Maha Petroleum. The pioneering fuel and lubricants marketing company has realized its promise to maintain and raise industry benchmarks for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) with aspiration and commitment. Two decades ago, omanoil reported its last incident of which resulted in reduced man hours at the terminal and has since been recognized for exceptional standards of safe operations, founded on best international practice.
Commenting on this momentous anniversary, Faisal Al Shanfari, omanoil General Manager of Operations, Engineering and HSSE said, "We are indebted to our people for this accomplishment. It is the commitment of staff to preserve the environment in which we operate with accountability, transparency and passion that has kept us safe for 20 years."
He added, "This is a great feat considering the high-risk nature of the terminal\'s 24 hour and 7 day a week loading activities with the ever increasing movement of people and vehicles. With a storage capacity of 55 million liters, 15 tankers, 180 trucks loaded daily and a total of 38 staff, HSSE is a challenge but one we face with dependable people who follow designed and continuously refined safety systems."
omanoil maintains the highest levels of safety standards through mandatory staff and contractor induction programs that are regularly updated to include company and industry improvements. A comprehensive culture of safety is fostered through tailor-made programs that include fire safety and quarterly risk assessment drills. In addition, product handling, loading activities and vehicular traffic are monitored with systematic spot checks and secure loading methods are implemented to prevent overspill.
HSSE is ever-present not only at the terminal, but also at omanoil\'s head office with internal audits, monthly meetings and the appointment of HSSE Champions to instill the concept of safe practices. Promoting self-reporting of incidents to assist in injury prevention, Safety Observation Conversation and Near Miss Award Winners analyze hazardous situations through engaging discussions to better improve response tactics.
Empowering employees to embrace ownership of HSSE practices, omanoil aims to continue to maintain its extraordinary record for safety. The company hopes to reach another decade of safe operations without lost time injury while advocating HSSE principles throughout all levels of operations from the terminal to the filling station.
