Oman Oil Marketing Company SAOG (OOMCO) recently hosted their annual Filling Station Dealer Awards event at the Grand Hyatt, Muscat. Each year the ‘top’ filling station dealers are honored according to criterion relating to factors including turnover, volume of fuel sold and customer service as part of OOMCO’s recognition of the importance of Filling Station Dealers in the ongoing success of the Company.
Over one hundred people attended the evening, keen to be updated with the Company’s accomplishments over the last year and to find out which filling stations were being rewarded for their successes.
Summarizing OOMCO’s business achievements in 2003, Mike Wilson, Managing Director, touched on the Company’s transition from BP Oman to OOMCO and highlighted the challenges ahead. In particular attention was given to the growth in site numbers from other players in the fuel retail field as the filling station market becomes increasingly competitive.
Paul Phillips, Retail Manager OOMCO reviewed the success of last year’s retail performance, feedback on the launch of the omanoil brand and discussed the need for improved customer service at Filling Stations in 2004. Recognising the importance of ensuring continued customer satisfaction, a number of initiatives were proposed including a revised filling station staff incentive scheme awarding greater cash bonuses based on customer service and making the filling stations more customer friendly.
Additional developments initiated by OOMCO in the course of 2003 included a landmark cross-acceptance scheme for the Gulf, with the launch of the first ever regional fuelcard cross acceptance in the GCC & Middle East. The agreement means that OOMCO fuelcards are accepted at Emarat service stations and Emirates filling stations in the UAE and their customers can now use their fuelcards at omanoil sites throughout Oman. Reinforcing the flexibility of such an initiative was the more recent launch of the Wayak card, omanoil’s latest pre-paid fuelcard targeted at the general public and small to medium businesses.
The opportunity to share business ideas, achievements and aspirations for 2004 was met with a positive response from those Dealers present.
